Have you ever wished foster children came with a parenting manual?
What about the added mystery of raising a child in the maze of foster care systems?

Help One Child presents a morning with the experts. Each speaker will share their expertise in key areas of concern and conclude with time for Q&A!

Dr Don Williams Dealing with Oppositional Behavior Don Williams, PsyD
Dr Don Williams will teach parenting techniques for dealing with defiant behavior,
including self-regulation for parent and child as well as provide insight into the
traumatized nervous system.

Dr. Don Williams is a leading Bay Area psychologist who specializes in Attachment Disorder and oppositional behaviors. He helped found Help One Child's monthly parent support group, the Parent Child Connection, in 1999 and has provided guidance and training since then. His
extensive experience with parents and children in the area of attachment and bonding spans the last 15 years. Dr. Williams' methods focus on helping parents learn how to regulate their own emotions and behaviors in order to best help the child learn self-regulation.
Linda Ikeda Building Skills for Grief and Growth Linda M. Ikeda, RN, MFT
Linda Ikeda will present skills that will assist foster parents with dealing with feelings of loss when a child returns to their birth family as well as helping a child cope with their own grief. She will also address topics related to blending birth and foster/adoptive children. Linda will cover how to validate the children's needs while still managing difficult emotions and behaviors.
Linda Ikeda is a leading Bay Area therapist who specializes in the treatment of Attachment Disorder and oppositional behaviors. She has traveled multiple times to Romania, Nepal and Uganda to train others working with attachment challenged children and has been a presenter at ATTACh, an international organization of professionals and parents. Her methods focus on the underlying theory of attachment and practical applications for parents to use with their children. She is a facilitator for the Parent Child Connection support group with Help One Child.
